Gold leafing

Following the very comprehensive reply about gold leafing(GL) from Mark Sanger(thanks Mark) I had a go on a bowl and a pot lid ,here are the results. Not wanting to waste GL I am practising with metal leaf to begin with. Although happy with the application I am a bit miffed about the ragged edges. I was trying for a really crisp edge but it didn't happen.
Comments welcome.

John

Thanks guys,
the scratches in the bottom were made when I passed it round for others to look at, it is after all just an experimental piece.
The bit I'm not overly happy with is around the rim of the bowl and the edges of the ring on the lid. I did try making a shallow groove and filling it with GL and then cutting it back on the lathe, like you do when putting a stained line in, but it just seemed to pull the GL out.
It's not put me off though, I will try again soon.
Regards
John

John,  Not to bad for a first attempt, as said you'll get better next time, will watch for then.

Hi John,

I like both of these, another thing on the list to try but I'm a poor woodturner can't afford gold.

Cheers Martin.
