Which Bandsaw to buy?
« on: May 28, 2013, 11:49:19 PM »
Hello, I am new to Woodturning, and slowly building up my workshop. My next item to buy is a Bandsaw, budget about £300-350, I know it's not a huge budget for a good bandsaw, but is there a good bandsaw on the market at that price? that would suit a novice woodturners? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul,

How is it going on the hunt for a bandsaw, what have you got in the line of outlets near you ... due to a lack of response, I'll re-post close to my first post of the saw's from Axminster and Record .. go as big as your budget will extend too, even if you need to wait or get second hand and you'll not know what your needs will be in the future, this could be a one time buy .. It took 3yrs before I got mine ..

From Axminster ... http://www.axminster.co.uk/bandsaws--woodworking-dept813017_pg1/ ...  of the range the AWHBS350N ..  http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-hobby-series-awhbs350n-bandsaw-prod886326/ .. is just over budget, a bit ...

For Record .. http://www.recordpower.co.uk/category/bandsaws ... the BS12 .. http://www.recordpower.co.uk/product/standard-12-bandsaw .. looks good for the money, some nice features .. watch their video for an interesting guide on any saw, as saw's are much of a muchness, these two are just for guides as there are many brands out there, but most are the same Chineses manufacturers and cost is down to the quality of components that make up any saw... then there are good and bad points to anyone of them ..

My own Elektra Beckum BAS 315 (now Metabo) had the plastic handle come off the nut to the guide height adjuster, I'd thought the blades (3 extra free) were due to rip resawing runout, but found from a video it was fence adjustment, in main it's the setting up which can cause a problem .. Oh it stopped this year, the capacitor .. after 14 yrs and the belt looks due for a change too.. other than that it's done above and beyond my needs.

Cheers  David
