Title: Vase
Post by: Derek on July 24, 2019, 05:41:36 PM
Not really sure what name to give this. Anyway just finished this vase which stands 9" tall the bottom is maple and covered with chemically treated brass sheets and the top I believe is Laburnum.

C & C welcome

Are the Brass sheets thin like gold leaf sheets and stuck on the same way.
It really works for me

It's a most unusual piece and a form that we don't often see, but I really like it. The contrast between the metal leaf and the timber is excellent.

Thank you George and Les

it did start out as being a vase but I had ideas for different decoration then I got the brass sheets to add to my it will be ideal for a future project pile I decided when it arrived to go with this instead.

The brass sheet is similar to the gold leaf and uses the same size to stick it down.

That is unusual, and very nice.

The leaf comes in literally hundreds of different patterns and metals. The metal leaf is at least half as thick again as gold leaf and is best used as a transfer rather than loose leaf.

Derek, I think this is what is called a 'Statement' piece. The chemically treated metal bass make this something different.

Derek
I like this and I like what you have done with the brass sheets, that’s another one to go on my long list of things I must try.

I do not see any sheet boundaries - did you chemically treat after the sheets were applied?

You buy the sheets already treated

I get mine from here (https://www.goldleafsupplies.co.uk/) Have a browse for the different leafs available. Go for the transfer though as they are so much easier to apply.
