Before and After.

Just wondering - i see some excelent turned items on here from Professionals but not many shots of the wood you start with - i was wondering if anyone could post some pictures of before and after? if you can it would be appreciated. steve
why do i feel the need to turn a block of wood into shavings?

Steve, it's rare I photo the wood before turning but here's one I did.

Thats Great steve - much appreciated, might sound sad but the before pics are just as interesting when paired with the finished item. i hope more will look at this and take the odd before picture.

This first one is a piece of ash from a storm-fall....it was turned green to an even thickness and allowed to dry slowly


This was a root of a hedge-plant (probably Leylandii). In the finished piece, it stands inverted compared to how it stood when growing.



...and finally, this piece was from some very punky, spalted holly

Thank you Les, great turning and real good to see the before pictures, i bet the root took some doing to get it rounded off.

Hi Steve

I am certainly not a professional but here are a couple of before/after photos.

I made a natural edge bowl out of an old Willow pollard.  I told you all I like ugly wood!  :)

The bowl ended up 14" x 7" and I seem to remember it made my lathe, knee's and teeth rattle a bit  :)

Thanks David - thats a fair old lump of timber and a lovely finished job, - i also like knarled lumps - its great to see what you chaps have got out of them.
